Asia-Pacific Caregiver & Healthcare Centre

Keyin College has announced a new strategic partnership with the Asia-Pacific Caregiver & Healthcare Training Centre (APC & HTC) designed to help meet the need of in-demand human resources in sectors deemed critical by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada: Personal Care Attendant and Home Support Worker.

Keyin College and APC & HTC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding focused on the joint delivery of education and training for students wishing to pursue a career in Newfoundland and Labrador in the following capacities: personal care attendant and home support worker. Together, the partners will provide best in class education, training and career opportunities and provide local employers with access to a new wave of well-trained, highly-capable, and fully-screened candidates.

With a more than 42-year history delivering high quality, community-minded education, Keyin College has produced tens of thousands of skilled workers to support key sectors of the province’s economy over the years and continues to be well positioned to help address current worker shortages in healthcare.

“Increasingly we are living and working in a global community, where Newfoundland and Labrador is uniquely positioned to address its worker shortages through local and international collaboration opportunities,” said Craig Tucker, President of Keyin College. “As the province’s largest private college, we are thrilled to sign this new Memorandum of Understanding to provide in-demand curriculums jointly with APC & HTC that not only meet and exceed training standards, but also produce much-needed graduates who are work-ready.”

Located in the Philippines, APC & HTC is one of the most innovative and highly respected training institutions in the Philippines where for the past 20 years, they have been graduating students who successfully go on to work in healthcare both domestically and internationally.

“As one of the most reliable and innovative healthcare training institutions in the Philippines, we are excited to join forces with Keyin College to offer world-class healthcare training to our students and graduates,” said Marlina Tan, President of Asia-Pacific Caregiver & Healthcare.

College of the North Atlantic

In June 2021, Keyin College and the College of the North Atlantic (CNA) made history with the signing of the first-ever Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between a public and a private college in Newfoundland and Labrador

The establishment of this MOU means, students graduating from Keyin College’s targeted diploma programs will have their credits recognized for entry into the College of the North Atlantic’s Information Management (Post-Diploma) program. The MOU formalizes a partnership between the two colleges in response to the province’s increasing demand for digital workers now and into the future.

Despite the challenges in the province’s economy, there are significant opportunities in the digital workforce that equates to thousands of new jobs now and for the years ahead.  Keyin and CNA are committed working together to provide Newfoundlanders and Labradorians with every opportunity to access those careers.  This ground-breaking partnership collectively provides enhanced training and expanding learning pathways which facilitate a bridge from Keyin to CNA programs.

Under this new agreement, any Keyin graduate from 2006 onwards from the following programs meet the eligibility entrance requirement for admission into CNA’s Information Management Post Diploma program:

LifeWorks - My Student Support Program (MySSP)

LifeWorks, formally known as Morneau Shepell, is the world’s leading provider of remote counselling support, and have been around for more than 40 years.  They have an extensive clinical network across 170 countries worldwide and they assist over 37 million people globally, and approximately 1 million students.  The Student Support Program was specifically developed for college and university students.

Mental health and wellness is one of Keyin’s core key pillars.  When we look at the prevalence of mental health conditions in Canada in any given year, we know that 1 in 5 people will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. In fact, research now shows that young people ages 15-24 are more likely to experience mental illness and/or substance use disorders than any other age group.

Despite the need for mental health support, there are often many barriers to individuals getting the support they need. The two most common barriers are awareness and stigma.  Our goal is to provide a program and platform where students can develop their mental health literacy skills and access mental health counselling support, without worrying about being labelled, stereotyped, or feared.

To address the mental health and wellness needs of our students, Keyin College has partnered with Lifeworks to provide our students with access to mental health services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Every Keyin College student will automatically be enrolled in the My Student Support Program and can access free, confidential mental health and wellness support through the website and/or downloading the MySSP app.  This app will help students with:

  • Adapting to new challenges
  • Relationship concerns
  • Being successful at school
  • Sadness and loneliness
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Uncertainty and much more

Students will also have access to free wellbeing resources such as:

  • Articles
  • Virtual fitness sessions
  • Assessments
  • Chats with a professional counsellor

All Students need to do is download the MySSP app and create a confidential account using their email address.
