Keyin College and Verafin Partner to Ramp-Up Student Tech Skills in Bootcamps
Fully subscribed summer program to help high school students learn the basics of software development and gain hands-on experience in the tech industry
(St. John’s, NL) – This summer Keyin College and Verafin will help 84 high school students across Newfoundland and Labrador gain new skills and capabilities in the high-demand area of software development.
The bootcamps offer students a combination of remote and online instruction developed by Keyin College in addition to internships at Verafin for participants to apply their skills and gain hands-on experience in the tech sector. The first bootcamp cohort is taking place from July 5 to 30, and the second is starting August 5 and wrapping up on August 27.
“Our world is moving faster and becoming increasingly more digital, and here in Newfoundland and Labrador we need more people to work in the tech sector – a lot more,” said Craig Tucker, President of Keyin College. “Together with Verafin, we have developed an interactive bootcamp for 84 students across the province that will not only help build their skill sets in computer programming and Python language, but it will also help open their eyes to the kinds of exciting, well-paying tech jobs here in our province and the role they might want to play in a digital workforce.”
Upon completion of the summer bootcamps, participating high school students will have gained the foundation skills for programming in the Python programming language with the ability to: solve basic programming problems; manage input and output of data from robotic sensors, and output to motors, consoles and other devices; and apply best practices of general programming and code documentation.
In addition to this bootcamp series, Keyin College has also partnered with TechNL to deliver one cohort of a technical bootcamp this summer.
